Squirrels Announce First Extension For 2013

It's Hammer Time.

In an expected move, Springfield Flying Squirrels of Republic GM Adam Anson announced today that the team would be extending the contract of slugging OFer Josh "The Hammer" Willingham. "Josh was a big part of what we were able to do in 2012, and we expect him to help take this team even further in 2013. With Trout and The Hammer, we have a lot of power returning to our OF," said Anson smiling.

Power is something the Squirrels should produce plenty of in 2013. Mike Trout, Josh Willingham, and Robinson Cano have already shown 30+ HR power, and Mike Moustakas and Freddie Freeman should continue their development. With Adam Wainwright, Roy Halladay, Anibal Sanchez, and an expected extension of either Dan Haren or Wade Miley, the Squirrels will be free to draft offense early and often in the upcoming draft.
